VPN, invisibility cloak
Start private, upgrade to a real VPN
Hint: watch the video at 2x speed
Software complexity creates friction. To welcome users who are not advanced, without them hitting a barrier of understanding at every step, everything is set up as a private connection from the start.
If people want to go completely ghost mode, they have to set up a VPN, a real one. You could say you start with a fake VPN and can upgrade it to a real one.
Is a VPN safer than HTTPS?
Not by itself. In terms of encryption they are almost the same: HTTPS is a one-way SSL certificate, a VPN is a two-way one. The difference is that VPN traffic runs both ways through a tunnel interface.
Two levels
By default, every user gets a standard private network. The session changes every 24 hours and you log in again, and the private key the client holds is handled automatically. Your IP is still visible, over a secure HTTPS connection.
For the real thing, go to Settings and switch on the secure tunnel. macOS asks for your administrator password and sets up a system-level VPN with a peer-to-peer connection, and you become a ghost on the internet. It is optional, and it is one extra step.
Start private. Go invisible when you need to.

A complexidade do software cria fricção.
